Artist's
Statement
Like all artists, my paintings express my
emotions. Equally important, hidden within each is a story of what I learned
in the process. In one painting that could be about texture or light and
shadow. In another, it could reveal my love of historic cabins or nature.
One of the things unique to watercolor is that, as a medium, it does not
lend itself to “do over’s”. Mistakes, or “happy accidents” provide an
opportunity to take my art in a direction far different than the one I had
originally planned. Forever interesting, the infinite wonders of watercolor
remain an adventure.
Although relatively new
to the painting scene, I have over 30 years of experience in artistic
expression through my work in advertising and marketing. Beginning my
painting career in 2001, I studied with Diane Maxey and Tom Lynch, in
additional to a variety of artists throughout Colorado. Plus, my work has
been greatly influenced through the books and videos of Roland Roycraft,
Nita Engle, and Karlyn Holman, among others.
I have exhibited in
Boulder, Longmont, Breckenridge and Dillon, and my work has been juried into
“The Spirit of Chautauqua” show in the Chautauqua Community House in Boulder
and in the “Artists Going Local” gallery exhibition at the Boulder Public
Library.
I am an active member of
the Boulder Art Association, the Colorado Watercolor Society and in the
Summit County Women of Watercolor group.
