Artist's Statement
Neta picked up her first
paint brush when she was in her teens. Her mother and aunt were life-long
inspirations. She always loved color and light in the world around her.
She attended the
University of Oklahoma taking drawing and design from Gene Bavinger and
graduated from Oklahoma City University with a BA in Art.
While raising a family
she attended the Art Students League in New York taking figure drawing and
oil painting lessons from Sherrie McGraw.
For thirteen years, with
eight people working for her, Neta owned and operated the "5021" Gallery Art
and Frame Shop in Oklahoma City.
The Norick Art Center, on
the campus of Oklahoma City University, had a sixty piece retrospect of
Neta's work. In 2003, one of her large oil paintings was chosen for
permanent hanging in the Ann Lacy Building on the campus.
Neta's full size acrylic
buffalo, "Bison Horizon" was created for a public art project benefiting the
Nature Conservancy's work in Oklahoma. Photographs appear in the book,
Spirit of the Buffalo, available at major book sellers.
Neta spends half her year
in Colorado, residing in her 1977 ski get away home. Her remaining time is
spent in Oklahoma City where she serves on the local mayor-appointed
Arts Commission.
