Artist's Statement
I paint with watercolors, pastels and applied
textures. I have painted off and on since 1965. Watercolors became my
primary medium in 1972 while taking a course in Pennsylvania. However, in
2001 I began a three year study with Chico Douglas in Alabama using only
pastels. After moving to Austin I have studied pastels with Diane Graham
and figures with Paloma at Laguna Gloria. As a member of Women of
Watercolor I have participated in workshops with Alice Caroll, Cheryl St.
John, Pam Hofstetler and Lori Williamson. We paint en plein air. I
photograph the area of study to capture the early light and basic shapes.
After painting in the bright light for several hours, I return to the studio
to correct the values and details. Landscapes and old structures, water,
rocks and weather, and use of bold color interest me. Two of my paintings
are represented at The Bay Street Co. in Breckenridge, Colorado. |
