Artist's Statement
Training myself to have the patience while applying
layers of paint, drying each layer before starting the next, and often times
painting last what I see first has been my introduction to the beauty and
challenge of watercolors. I use several surfaces to paint on which include
Arches hot press and cold press, mat board, foam core, watercolor board,
canvas, yupo, and masa paper. Each surface helps me to accomplish different
techniques. In the spring, summer and fall, I enjoy plein air painting in
the mountains of Colorado and Northern New Mexico. Both areas offer
wonderful light sources!
To keep my painting skills growing, I
continually take workshops each year from other water media artists. Susan
Blackwood, Betty Carr, Michael Atkinson, Raleigh Kinney, Rose Edin, Frank
Francese, Betsy Dillard Stroud and Judy Patti are some of the artists who
have influenced and encouraged my style of painting. I am a member of
Paint Box Guild, Summit County Women of Watercolor and a signature member
of Colorado Watercolor Society.
As a Colorado native,
I have grown up with the wonderful Rocky Mountain
scenery and fickle seasons. My husband, Will, and I enjoy our part-time
residence in Summit County. We love to experience the absolute beauty and
serenity of the surrounding landscape from snow cap mountains against a deep
blue sky to meadows filled with wild flowers leading us to a mountain lake.
Each landscape stimulates me to paint what I feel are alpine treasures.
